Description
S/N YB1126 indicates a production year of 1956 in Rochester, NY. Probably the last B&L model with a substage mirror and external (made by B&L with up to 60W standard light bulb on/off only). B&L eventually had their microscopes made in Japan and sold them as private label Balplan. Eventually the B&L microscope division was sold to the Wild-Leitz company that is now called Leica Microsystems. B&L began in Rochester in 1875 making microscopes. This would be a good scope for viewing and measuring asbestos samples or microplastics. We include ten teaching slides with the sample identified. We also include a nice B &L history booklet from the 1960's "Milestones in Optical History". Great scope for a young scientist who knows good products and does not want a plastic junk toy from China. This is real Americana with objective set 3.5x, 10x, 43x and 100x oil immersion. Full set of viewing oculars 5x, 7.5x, 10x and 20x. Mechanical stage. Includes a UK-made Cooke (Troughton-Simms) image splitting eyepiece plus a real B & L stage micrometer in a case. This model is the #31 series. The measuring eyepiece is quickly removed for routine viewing. Add an adapter for cell phone camera photography. Plenty of these on Ebay. Measure aspect ratios with the 43x objective on asbestos fiber samples. Ships USA lower 48 only. Free shipping via USPS Ground Advantage. Ask questions before pulling the trigger on this one.
